Head and Neck Cancer Australia's FREE Webinars are designed to educate, inform and support people living with Head and Neck Cancer and their families and friends, but everyone is welcome to join whether you're a patient, carer, friend or healthcare professional.

Topic: Fear of Cancer Recurrence: Worrying about cancer coming back
People diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer live with the knowledge that it may come back. This knowledge can increase worry and fears about the cancer recurring and affect a person's ability to live life fully and make plans for the future.
While fear of cancer recurrence may never go away completely there are ways to manage it. Our guest speakers will talk about what fear of cancer recurrence is, how people experience it, and what might help to reduce it.
GUEST SPEAKERS
Dr Lachlan McDowell
Radiation Oncologist, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne
Dr Lachlan McDowell is a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre specialising in the treatment of head and neck cancers. He graduated from the University of Queensland in 2008, and received his Fellowship in Radiation Oncology from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists in 2015. During 2015, he undertook a clinical and research fellowship in head and neck radiation oncology and adult radiation therapy late effects at the Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada. He joined the Peter Mac radiation oncology department in December 2016.
Dr McDowell’s main research interests include clinical outcomes, health related quality of life and unmet needs in head and neck cancers. He is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Melbourne focussed on gaining a better understanding of the long-term quality of life and unmet needs of survivors with human papillomavirus-associated (HPV) oropharyngeal cancer, including a specific interesting in sexual health outcomes and fear of cancer recurrence. He is also a supervisor and investigator of a number of local cohort and clinical studies.
A/Professor Haryana Dhillon
Senior Research Fellow, Science, School of Psychology, University of Sydney
A/Professor Haryana Dhillon B.Sc MA (psych) PhD is an academic behavioural scientist and psycho-oncology researcher. She is Research Fellow in Cancer Survivorship at the Centre for Medical Psychology and Evidence-based Decision-making at the University of Sydney and the CeMPED Deputy Director within the Central Clinical School.
Haryana co-leads a Cancer Survivorship Research Group. The group focuses on studies in cancer and cognition, physical activity in cancer populations, and symptom management in cancer survivors. She maintains an active research interest in supportive care following a cancer diagnosis, health literacy, and communication in the cancer setting.
Haryana is a member of the Board and Council of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA), chair of the COSA Survivorship Group, and Scientific Advisory Committee chair for Psycho-oncology Co-operative Research Group.
