Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) is one of the least supported cancers in Australia. Most people in Australia know very little about it and there are no public education campaigns to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of HNC. Over 5,100 Australian's are newly diagnosed every year and more than 17,000 people are living with Head and Neck Cancer. While in the past smoking was the most common cause of cancer, what many people don’t know is that today 70% of tonsil and base of tongue cancers are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), the same virus that causes cervical cancer. These cancers are increasingly seen in people aged in their 40s to 50s who are otherwise healthy. There has also been an alarming 385% increase in tongue cancers in otherwise healthy, young women. The cause is unknown. Your donation will go directly towards providing free information and support to people living with Head and Neck Cancer and raising awareness across Australia. Thank you.
